A first grade class was busy learning, practicing, and showing leadership today!
Students were practicing their phonics skills, learning how to complete a computer reading station, and working in a small group with one of our wonderful classroom Trilogy volunteers.
Through these learning stations, our students are learning that being a leader means taking responsibility for your learning, working together, asking for help when you need it, and doing your best even when something is new or challenging. 🌟

Our students have had a great week and are looking forward to the long weekend for Labor Day!
Below you will see two flyers from our PTO! One is in regard to Duty Free lunch and Joining PTO! The other is letting you know of a great reward in the shape of a Doughnut for our top three classes! We appreciate your support of our PTO and the hard work they put in for our whole school!
We are collecting gently used Halloween costumes of all sizes in conjunction with the City of Lincolnton. These costumes will be cleaned, mended, and then given out in October at the Apple Festival. We will collect costumes until October 2nd. Thank you for your help with this initiative!
If you did not know, one of our own staff, Mrs. Bartholomew (Kindergarten Teacher Assistant) has cancer. She is currently doing well with her treatment plan and we are cheering her on to remission! Next Tuesday, September 8th, we would like for everyone to wear orange in her honor! We will send her lots of pictures of all the support she is getting from her Catawba Springs family.

Good Afternoon!
It's hard to believe that the month of September arrives next week! Students are getting in a groove with school and are already learning so much! Please see below for some notes for next week:
From the Cafeteria:
Lunch is NOT free. Student lunch is $3.15.
Breakfast is FREE for students.
Even if your child received free or reduced-price meals last year, you must complete a new Free and Reduced-Price Meal application for this school year. You can do this online or send in a paper copy.
Car Riders:
NO student should be dropped off prior to 7:20. Staff is available beginning at 7:20 or Before School Care through the YMCA is an opportunity if you need earlier drop off. Please have your child ready to hop out of the car in the mornings. If they are able, they should go ahead and exit the vehicle on their own. Staff are available to help if a student needs help exiting. Please fill in the whole car rider circle- leaving no gaps. This helps us get as many students out as possible and moves the line along faster.
In the afternoons, our line is moving faster. Please be in line by 3:00. Also, please be sure you use an alternating pattern as the double line becomes a single line and use the traffic entry pattern (no cutting in line please). The line functions as a zipper pattern or like Chick-fil-a! This helps us make sure the students go to the correct color.

Good Afternoon Colt Families!
We had a great first full week of school!! We appreciated ELHS football and cheerleaders greeting us this morning and wish them all the best tonight in their first official game of the season!
Bus 280 and Bus 282 have several changes to their routes. Mrs. Westbrook has reached out to families impacted by and changes and updates were sent home to those students in Friday folders as well.
Car riders are moving right along. Please be sure that you enter the single line in a zipper fashion so that every other car enters the single lane. This helps to keep our numbers/colors system on track correctly.
3rd Graders will take the Beginning of Grade test on Tuesday. Please be on time! All other students have begun beginning of year benchmark testing for literacy and math.

We have had a great first two days of school! Thank you for your patience as we work out car riders and bus routes.
Next Monday, only Kindergarten parents may walk their students into the building. Thank you for your help with this!
Car riders- if you need your new car rider number, please be sure to reach out to your child's teacher or call the front office to ask for the number. This will help with traffic flow in the afternoon tremendously. Also, please make sure your child knows the number and what the number looks like.
Bus riders- Please remind your students to be paying attention to when their stop is coming up. This will move our routes along more quickly in the afternoons.
If you have any transportation changes, please message your child's teacher through the LCSNC App and by calling the school. ALL changes must be made before 2:15. If you need any bus information, please call Mrs. Westbrook.

Good Afternoon Colt Families! This week we are excited to welcome our students back to school as we Level Up Learning and Leadership! Tuesday, August 11th is Open House! 9:00 is Kindergarten Open House and 4:30-6:30 is 1st- 5th grade Open House! You can meet teachers, ask transportation questions and pick up a few school supplies! Thursday is the First Day of School for half of our Kindergarten students.Please be sure to check your teacher assignment letter for your staggered date or ask your teacher at Open House. The other half of our Kindergarten students will come Friday. All Kinder students will return to school on Monday, August 17th. Thursday is also the first day back for all 1st through 5th grade students! Doors open at 7:20 and the tardy bell rings at 8:00! Breakfast is free for all students! We can't wait to see you! Good Morning Colt Families!
We hope you are enjoying your summer! I am excited to be joining you this year as Principal of Catawba Springs. I spent my Kindergarten through Second Grade years here and love this community. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Reading Education, and a Graduate Certificate in School Leadership. This is my 20th year in education and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Catawba Springs Community. My husband and two daughters and I live nearby and enjoy spending time with friends, family, and time outdoors! I look forward to meeting each of your families and working with you this school year. Please see the graphic below for some upcoming opportunities- the first being Popsicles with the Principal on July 24th from 4:30-6pm. We are excited to see you soon!
