ELMS Falcons are soaring through the Leader in Me Habits! This week, students have explored the first five habits: Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, and Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.

For today’s Habit 5 lesson, students played the game Telephone to experience firsthand why listening carefully and making sure we understand others is so important. The game demonstrated what can happen when we don’t listen closely, make assumptions, or respond before we fully understand what someone is saying.

Students had a great time with the activity—and they quickly discovered that a message can change completely when we aren’t listening carefully! It was a fun and memorable way to see why seeking first to understand is an important leadership skill both in school and in everyday life.

Be sure to ask your child about the Leader in Me Habits they learned this week!
