This morning, 20 of our fourth and fifth grade students participated in the 2024 SJES schools spelling bee. Eleven rounds later, we had a winner and runner up. Marco, 5th grade, was our winner and Michael, 5th grade, was our runner up. Great job everyone! Marco will represent our school in the county spelling bee next semester.

All Lincoln County Elementary Schools are working together in this season of giving to collect donations for the teachers of Micaville Elementary in Burnsville, NC. These teachers lost everything in their classrooms during the flood and will not return to their building. However, they are being dispersed into other schools without any of their personal teaching supplies. We would love for every elementary student and staff member to donate $1 between 11/18-11/26 so we can help these teachers replace their teaching supplies to welcome their classes back in a new building. You may send in a dollar bill any day during our collection period. Thank you!

📚 Book Fair Announcement! 📚 Get ready—the Book Fair arrives this week! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health. Students will have a chance to preview on Thursday, with shopping beginning on Friday. Please look out for information from your child's teacher about specific shopping opportunities. This year, the e-wallet is available again! The e-wallet is a digital payment account, allowing students to shop without cash. For more details and to set up an account, see the link provided in the email following this message. Parents are invited to shop with their child during two special times outside of school hours: 📅 Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8–10 AM (during the 5K) 📅 Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 3:00–4:00 PM (after school) Additionally, we will have two raffle baskets available at the Book Fair! Proceeds from these baskets will benefit both our library and the Love Our Veterans Thrift Store in honor of Veterans Day. Raffle tickets are $1. The drawing will be on Monday, Nov. 18 The baskets are themed as follows: 🇺🇸 Patriotic Basket 🐾 Dog Man Basket Thank you to everyone who generously donated items to help fill these baskets. We’re excited to celebrate reading with you! SJES Book Fair Website: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/stjameselementaryschool16
