Week of January 19, 2026
Welcome to Semester Two, Week Three!
Here are the TOP FIVE things you need to know to have a great week at LHS.
Remember that there is no school on Monday, January 19. School will resume on Tuesday, January 20 at 8am.
We have TWO home basketball games this week. You can purchase your $5 ticket at all lunches on Tuesday and Friday. Remember that you can only buy ONE ticket. The $5 meal deal is also available at the concession stand for these games. For $5, you will get an entree, drink, chips, and a cookie. Tuesday’s game is Senior Night, with recognition for seniors on both the varsity girls’ and boys’ teams. Friday is Military Appreciation Night. Encourage your family members who may be active duty, reserve personnel or veterans to come to the game because they get in FREE with their military ID.
Speak of basketball, you MUST enter through the main entrance to either purchase your ticket or show the ticket you bought at lunch. If you are found entering through a side door, you will be banned from attending future games. And, if someone lets you in through a side door, they will be banned as well. This is a safety issue because we have to keep an accurate count of the number of people in the stands and we also need to make sure that all spectators are scanned upon entry.
Juniors and Seniors: If you do not have approved LA/ER and are staying on campus during a period when you have a CCP class, an online class, or a reduced schedule placeholder, you MUST be in the Seminar Room. There are no exceptions to this policy.
If you need to see your counselor, make sure to use the appointment request form. Counselors will begin pre-advising for registration this week and, because of that, they will be in and out of their offices. If you need to talk to your counselor, the best way to make sure you are seen quickly is to fill out the appointment request form. Walk-in visits are not available, unless it is a crisis situation.

Week of January 12, 2026 Top 5 Things to Know!
Welcome to Semester Two, Week Two!
Here are the TOP FIVE things you need to know to have a great week at LHS.
Report cards go home on Thursday. We will have a 10 minute homeroom at 8am to give out report cards. Please note that, if you took an English 2 EOC re-test on Friday, your final grade and exam grade will be updated once we receive those scores.

Counselors are still processing schedule change requests. Please be patient. Do not complete the appointment form to ask about a schedule change. Do not stop by guidance without being called. All those things slow down the process.
Juniors and Seniors: You should have turned in your LA/ER form on Friday. If you didn’t, it is too late to turn it in. If you have not received confirmation that you can come in late or leave early, you need to stay in the media center until you receive that confirmation.
Looking ahead, there is no school on Monday, January 19. Enjoy your long weekend!

Early Release/Late Arrival forms are due by January 9th. Students must complete and return the form to be considered for approval. No student should assume approval until they hear from the administration and should plan to be in attendance on campus until that time. This option is only available to our Junior and Senior students
Good evening, LHS families!
We hope all our Wolves have enjoyed some rest and relaxation over Winter Break, but we sure have missed our students and are ready to begin second semester! Monday and Tuesday are teacher workdays and school will resume on January 7 at 8am. All students will report to homeroom to start the day so that they can receive an updated copy of their second semester schedules.
Before I get into updates about policies and procedures for the new semester, I want to take a minute to congratulate some student groups on accomplishments right before and during our break. The annual inspection of our ROTC program was held before winter break. We are so proud to say that our program scored a 98.5 out of 100 possible points and earned an “Exceeds Expectations” rating! Congratulations to our cadets, Major Rhyne, and MSgt. Collins on their hard work in achieving this accomplishment! Our sports teams were busy winning over break as well! Congratulations to our wrestling team on winning the whole Alleghany Tournament during break and to senior Gabe Robinson on achieving his 100th win at the Gavin Sharpe Tournament yesterday. Our basketball team achieved a big win at their Phenom Showcase by defeating rival team Salisbury High School! We look forward to seeing what both teams do as sports gear up again this week.
As we get ready to begin a new semester, I want to clarify our cell phone policy. While students are able to have their phones out before school, after school, and at lunch, they should turn them off and store them in their book bags during instructional time. This is to help students focus on learning and remove the distractions that social media can create. While the majority of our students do a good job of complying with this expectation, there are many who don’t. Moving forward, students who do not comply with the cell phone policy will earn the same consequences as for defiance because students know the rules and are choosing not to follow them. Please partner with us in reminding your student of the importance of being physically and mentally present during instructional time.
Students may request schedule changes beginning January 7 by accessing the form that will be linked on the school website. The form will close for requests on January 9, so students should make sure to complete the form before the end of the week. Counselors will call students up to discuss the requests or send emails if the changes are not possible. All schedule changes will be complete by January 14.
Students requesting late arrival or early release should pick up an application in the front office. This privilege is only available to juniors and seniors in good academic standing. Please review your student’s form before signing. A parent signature is required before students submit their application. Please note that students are not automatically approved for late arrival or early release and are expected to be on campus, in the media center, until they receive confirmation. It is also important to note that approval will be re-evaluated at progress reports and report cards, and approval can be revoked if students are not performing well in their classes.
In athletic news this week, our basketball teams will play Kings Mountain at home on Tuesday and our wrestling team will host a tri-match against Shelby and Cherryville on Tuesday as well. Wednesday will see our swim team traveling to Shelby for their meet. And, on Friday, our basketball team will be back in action at home against Highland Tech. Please plan to come to one or all of these events to cheer on our student athletes!
Thank you for your support of our students, staff, and school! We look forward to a wonderful 2026 at LHS!
