Please congratulate the following students on working hard to place NLHS in third place for the Western region of the NCASA Art showcase. These students had to create an artwork based on the prompt, "Declaration of Independence." They worked independently, outside of class, over winter break to create a cohesive portfolio of 9 artworks for our school. We had one artwork for each category; drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, mixed media, collage, digital drawing, sculpture, and animation. These students' dedication and passion to complete the project is outstanding.

The portfolio will move onto the state competition at David McCune International Gallery on the campus of Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC on February 7th. The top scores will be on display throughout the month of February.

Photography - Grace H. - Top score for the category.
Drawing - Katie S.
Mixed media - Dakota M.
Printmaking - Gabrielle H.
Painting - Anna S.
Digital Drawing - Mya N.
Sculpture - Isabella M.
Collage - Georgia V.
Animation - Bailee M. (not shown due to file size)

Mixed media drawing of 3 people on a podium held up on the backs of enslaved and indigenous people.
Red and Blue stiped image of King George III and President Trump superimposed on each other. You can see King George with a Red Filter and President Trump with a blue filter.
Painting of George Washington standing on USA fighting with a British Soldier standing on the UK while money bags and tea are being thrown across the Atlantic ocean.
American flag stuck into a broken crown on a pile of rocks with hazy grey sky.
Sculpture of the Statue of Liberty dressed in black.
Collage of the Statue of Liberty, Emancipation Proclomation and American flag juxtaposed with tourist sites, words like FREEDOM and arbitrary "needs" like coffee.

Good Evening,

Tomorrow (Wednesday, January 28th) will be a Remote Learning Day. Similar to today, here is some important information to help you through your day:

1.) Students will follow the same instructions by their teachers as they did today on how to complete activities, receive instruction, ask for assistance, etc.
2.) All school staff will be available for support between 8AM-3PM. They can be accessible through the communication tools shared by them and through email.

3.) For Gaston students: Check out Gaston.edu for updated information on classes taking place. We have not heard officially if in-person classes will be taking place.

4.) **Curriculum Night has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 4th from 5:30-7:00PM. We look forward to having you as we prepare for the 2026-2027 School Year!

On a Remote Learning Day, students are expected to fully engage in all assigned instructional tasks, as these assignments are subject to grading and assessment, just like in-person work. Any work assigned during remote learning must be completed and submitted within five school days of returning to face-to-face instruction. Teachers will provide this five-day window to ensure students have adequate time to complete and turn in their assignments, and students are responsible for meeting these deadlines to receive full credit.

If you have any questions, reach out to your teachers or school administration for more information.

Thank you!
