The March Madness Staff Pie Challenge at Pumpkin Center is heating up. We have narrowed down our leaders as the competition continues. Currently, Mrs. Russell is leading the pack with 6 points, followed closely by Mrs. Isenhour and Officer Arby, who both have 4 points. Check out the board to see where your favorite staff members stand in the bracket.

North Lincoln Middle School Cheerleading Tryouts for the 2026-2027 season are approaching! Tryouts will be held May 18-20 in the NLMS gym. Please note there is a mandatory parent/guardian meeting on May 5th at 5:30 PM in the cafeteria. All required documents, including sports physicals, concussion forms, and tryout applications, must be submitted to Amanda Nash or Maria Childers by May 11th to be eligible. We are looking for energetic team players with positive attitudes to represent our school!

North Lincoln Middle School Cheerleading Tryouts 2026-2027. Dates: May 18-19th from 3:15 to 6:00; May 20th from 3:15 until your group has finished trying out. Tryouts will be held in the gym at NLMS. A mandatory parent/guardian meeting will be held May 5th in the cafeteria at 5:30pm. The following documents must be completed and returned on or before May 11th: a current sports physical using the form we provide, a signed concussion form, and a tryout application. Submit physical and concussion forms to Amanda Nash (amanda.nash@lincoln.k12.nc.us) or the NLMS front office. Submit tryout applications to Maria Childers (mchilders@lincoln.k12.nc.us) or the front office. All forms are due by May 11th with no exceptions. Evaluation criteria include: energy and spunk, sharp motions in cheer and dance, loud spirit projection, and flexibility with jumps and kicks. Tumbling is an asset but not a requirement. We are looking for team players with positive, encouraging attitudes.
Brief overview of tryouts: Monday 5/18 (3:15-6:00) Review motions and jumps, learn cheer and dance in groups. Tuesday 5/19 (3:15-6:00) Review cheer, dance, and jumps; practice tumbling. Wednesday 5/20 TRYOUT (3:15-until) Perform cheer and dance for judges in groups of 4. Results will be posted on the 2026-2027 NLMS Cheerleading Tryouts Apptegy page. All decisions are final. Accepting a position commits you to both football and basketball seasons. Football games are Wednesdays at 5:00 (Sept.-Oct.). Basketball games are Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 4:00 (Jan.-Feb.). Practices are held non-game days from 3:00-4:30 pm, excluding Fridays. Practices and games are mandatory; unexcused absences may result in dismissal. Our 5th graders had a fantastic time visiting North Lincoln Middle School! A huge thank you to NLMS for welcoming our students and providing a wonderful tour of the campus and media center. It was a great day of learning and exploration as these students prepare for middle school.

Registration is underway for North Lincoln Middle School. Lincoln County Schools is coordinating site specific information that will be communicated directly by each middle school in partnership with the feeder elementary schools. Middle schools will share spring family tour and info night opportunities, though teacher names and class lists won't be available at these events.
The timeline is as follows:
February: Middle School Visits to Elementary. Middle school counselors and staff will visit feeder elementary schools to address student questions about middle school and share site-specific opportunities. Parents will receive information about elective options.
March: Elementary Visits to Middle School. Elementary students will tour their feeder middle schools and observe Elective classes. They will also select their top preferred electives, though options are not guaranteed and may change due to availability. All students will be scheduled in ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE/Health, and 1 or 2 electives.
April/May: Parent & Guardian Visits Middle School.
May: Look for registration information via email, NLMS website, or social media for the August Rising 6th Grade JumpStart event.
Mid-June: Students will receive advanced class eligibility letters via mail.
August: Schedules & Teachers Online. Students and families can view their schedules and teachers in Infinite Campus mid-August. However, schedules, teachers, and teams won't be final until Open House, and any information seen before then is subject to change as schools finalize class assignments.

Our students enjoyed a special visit from guest readers yesterday as we celebrated the first day of Read Across America Week! Our classrooms were filled with excitement as district staff joined us to share some of their favorite books with our students. We are so grateful to have a team that is always willing to go the extra mile to support our learners and inspire the next generation of readers!

Please remember that there is no school for students tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3rd, because of a teacher workday. Students will also have another day off next Monday, March 9th.

This Friday, March 6th, is the end of the grading period. All remote learning work must be turned in by Friday afternoon to count for your child's grade. We hope these reminders help you plan your week and help our students finish the quarter strong!

Today was Mrs. Thomas' last day at Pumpkin Center Intermediate! She is retiring after 29 years of dedication to supporting students and their families! Thank you so much Mrs. Thomas for your support and encouragement you have brought to our community. We will miss you but enjoy your next chapter of retirement!
